The Time Has Come

Friends, we live in a fast-paced world that is changing by the nanosecond. These constant changes can be linked to the constant changes in technology. As bloggers, Matt and I have come to the conclusion that Blogger is no longer meeting our needs. While this saddens us, we feel that we can better express ourselves through another venue. Our roommate Will introduced us to Tumblr**, and we fell in love. It's fast, it's fun, and most importantly, it's super easy.

Another alteration: Although Matt and I share a deep and undying devotion to each other, we will be going our separate online ways. Our dreams of breaking into fashion journalism and the world of magazines can only be helped by distinguishing our own identities on the world wide web. Kelly Cutrone gave us some good advice during her talk- have a presence online and blog, blog, blog. We intend to do just that.

And so we must say farewell to our faithful readers (so, goodbye Kate and Paige). We love you nearly and dearly. Unfortunately, we'd love our very own blogs more. Ciao, friends and family.

Monday marked the beginning of SCAD Style, which is an event our school hosts where there are exhibitions and lectures by some really cool people from the Fashion and Interior Design industries. Today, I went with a couple of pals to hear Kelly Cutrone speak. So, Ms. Cutrone is known for her no-nonsense attitude and brutal honesty. And while she didn't disappoint as far as her reputation preceding her, she was actually quite personable and had a lot of great advice and surprisingly motivational things to pass on to the huge captive audience (unfortunately for Ms. Cutrone, it was more than likely filled with eager freshman who are "big fans of The Hills", "love shopping", and "are just really into fashion").

She was smart, witty, put-together, and at times, hilarious. I also would like to commend Ms. Cutrone for her captivating ability to utilize very successful metaphors time and again. A favorite moment: Ms. Cutrone compared the new designers trying to make it in fashion to jesters and peasants working to entertain and serve the kings and queens living in castles on hilltops (otherwise known as the big fashion magazine powers). If you make it into the pages of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, you're royalty. I appreciated her opinionated stance on life choices. Ms. Cutrone has encouraged girls like me to be successful through diligent work ethic and a positive attitude.

I also learned that no woman needs a man by her side to make something of herself in the world. Life according to Kelly Cutrone is this: "Make your own money, so you can sleep with whoever you want." While this made everyone burst into laughter, I think I understood Ms. Cutrone's sentiment. Be independent and go for it, no matter what and don't rely on the preconceived idea that a woman is only complete in a relationship. I was inspired! Cue Beyonce's "Single Ladies"....and Destiny's Child's "Independent Women" for that matter.

Two things to remember as far as Kelly Cutrone is concerned: she's the HBIC at all times and she's worked long and hard to reserve the right to self-proclaim that title. And if you write to her saying that you have "a passion for fashion", she's going to tear up your letter and throw it in the trash.

Do I have a passion for fashion? Maybe. But, don't tell Kelly.

"An advertiser's dream"

First of all, I love, love, love Drew Barrymore. And I am a huge fan of her as a Covergirl. Paige always said that I was an advertiser's dream, and I see more and more every day how accurate that is. In the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic, Rebecca Bloomwood relates the euphoric feeling of shopping to "butter sliding down hot toast". Well, that's how I feel when I see a cool commercial or magazine ad-- "I want it. Now. Like, right now."

(Every problem starts somewhere)

True story: I was reading some sort of gossip magazine that I probably grabbed approximately three seconds before reaching the cashier at Kroger, and I flipped to an enticing ad for Covergirl Lash Blast mascara featuring the lovely Miss Barrymore. I was instantaneously intrigued. Only seconds later, I saw Drew and her mascara dancing around on TV. I recall it being a very blissful moment. "Ooo, I want that stuff," I said under my breath. Before Paige even had time to laugh at me, I was putting my shoes on to venture to the nearest CVS.

I have come to terms with the fact that I have issues, but come on, doesn't she just make you want to buy things?

I want these.

Fierce.

This looks like something I could like.

After seeing this ad for the second time, I remembered that I needed these.

Oh, Come On!

O.K., so just in case you weren't already absolutely certain that Lifetime is the worst channel ever, they go and release this shameful piece of television cinema. It tells the story of a young man and former wrestler, whose sister is brutally murdered, who forms a strange (and way too sexual for primetime TV) bond with a widow, who has a deaf son. [Got it? Me neither.] The fact that I have seen this movie and am able to sufficiently rant about it makes me physically angry.

#1: Could this poster for the movie be a little more Photoshopped? Michelle Pfeiffer looks like she's made out of clay. And when has natural light ever hit people's bodies in that many different places at once?

#2: Not like it's a big surprise, but the acting in this film is beyond atrocious. Ashton Kutcher tries to play troubled, but ends up coming off nutty. In one particularly ridiculous scene, he pretends to cry while wearing a chicken costume. Michelle Pfeiffer mostly relies on her strategically tousled hair. And don't even get me started on the voice-overs...

#3: The whole movie is crazy confusing and hard to watch, due to the fact that it attempts to be very artsy and overly dramatic. It has a sort of gray filter over the whole thing and there are endless amounts of camera shots approximately one centimeter from the characters' faces.

I've already spent way too much time on this subject. The moral of the story is: if your Tivo thinks that it's taping this movie for you, tell your Tivo no.

So, a few weeks ago, the schedule for the Savannah Film Fest came out. The Film Fest usually looks like a ballot for the Academy Awards. This year, there were a bunch of great movies coming including An Education, Men Who Stare at Goats, and Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. When I saw that they were playing Precious, I thought I might pee. It got even better when I read that director Lee Daniels and star actress Gabourey Sidibe would be attending the screening.

Anyone who personally knows me knows that I am a sucker for anything sad and depressing, and anything that involves Oprah. So it shouldn't be a shock that I can't wait to see Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, which happens to be produced by Oprah. Precious chronicles the teenage years of Clareece 'Precious' Jones' (Gabourey Sidibe) life, and documents the abuse from her ferocious mother, Mary (Mo'Nique). Mo'Nique's character Mary is the definition of a horrendous mother. She continuously beats Precious, and makes Precious feel like she is worth nothing. The movie also stars a unrecognizable Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, Paula Patton, and Sherri Shepard.

Today, whilst diddling around on Facebook, I saw a picture of one of my young friends (16 years old) and I have to say, I was disturbed. Not only was she wearing more makeup than I even own, but she was also wearing a tight strapless minidress with a studded belt and 4-inch Christian Louboutins. This seems to be a trend among modern adolescents of the world.

They might not be as slutty as Miley (see below), but they definitely don't dress their age, in my opinion. I find it mildly ridiculous. When I was little, I wore Limited Too and flower-print Keds slip-ons. My dad would have dropped dead before letting me out of the house in a dress that barely covered my pre-pubescent bum, let alone leather spiked heels.

(Are you kidding me? This child just turned 16.)

Now, I realize that this is Hollywood and it's a totally different world, where young girls are on some sort of fast-track to adulthood and sex appeal, but I guess, I'm a little old-fashioned. Doesn't anyone want to hold onto their childhood anymore? Sure, I wanted to wear a bra way too early, but I didn't run around after school in leather jackets and skinny jeans (although, not exactly popular at the time).

Sorry for the delay. Here is a recap of life.

A variety of fun times have occurred in the past few weeks...

1. Friends, I present to you: "An Evening at Santos Party House"

Somewhere way downtown, there is a little spot called Santos Party House. Though our crowd may not have been even close to hipster enough to be seen there, we embarked anyway. We went for a couple of reasons: one, to see Leighton Meester (of Blair Waldorf bitch fame) play some songs from her upcoming musical endeavor (we'll see...), and two, to see Amanda Lepore (a fierce tranny) sing silly songs and dance.

Free drinks until midnight set the night off to a fine start, although the "special" vodka with an energy boost they were offering had a little more boost than booze. No worries- who turns down a free drink? The evening was filled with great music (various MJ tributes), and much dancing ensued.

It's my second week of work at Elle. I'm feeling very city savvy (my mom likes to say "Manhattan maven"). I work Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays and I am busy busy busy each day.

Today, I called boutiques in New York, L.A., and North Carolina (?!) to confirm info for our Shopping Guide. The boutiques are carrying items for the September issue. Everyone was very nice and helpful, but the jewelry store in North Carolina was so busy, the woman could barely pay attention to what I was saying. She told me the store is always hectic at lunch time. Who is buying fine jewelry on their lunch break in North Carolina in this economy? Someone tell me.

Since this is the first job I've actually wanted, I have a lot of fun with it. A big celebrity is coming to the office on Friday....but I can't tell you who it is....

Sorry about the delay in posts, but I was in desperate need of an ethernet cable for internet at my new house (Marymount Manhattan). Now that I have internet access, here we go! I'm in New York City and my fabulousness quotient has gone through the roof. On Monday, I started my job at Elle magazine! It's fantastic. I have my own little desk and computer, which are right next to the fashion and accessories closets. The most amazing things are always passing by!

I spent the day meeting everyone around the office (fashion and photo editors, staff writers, the lovely ladies in marketing, etc.) and labeling clothes and accessories for the shopping guides in the mag. I also organized photos of all the clothes they shot for the July and August issues. What could be better than looking at beautiful designer clothes all day? Happy!

I have work again Wednesday, but I spent my day off sleeping in, running errands with Matt, hitting up Pinkberry (the most delicious thing in the universe), going to tasty Chinese dinner, and watching the season finale of SVU (so intense!).

Everything you do in New York City is fun.

It's the best day of my life!

I got the job! I got the job! I GOT THE JOB! I got the official offer for the summer internship at Elle magazine!

Oh My Gosh! Today is a great day! I'm going to New York City this summer, and Matt, Will, and I are looking at a sweet apartment at 5! The only thing that went wrong was that I found out the boy I like has a girlfriend. Sad times for about 2 seconds until Matt cheered me up: "You work at Elle."

I know that VH1 is not exactly known for its classy television, but I can't help but adore the tough lovin' on Tough Love. And while momentarily, I felt empty and lost without Tool Academy, I was rewarded with this sparkling gem of a program. It provides education, entertainment, and insight into the minds of these crazy bitches. I would tell everyone to check it out, but you'd be really far behind and not be able to truly appreciate all that is Taylor (bottom row, far left).

And how can you not just love Steve? Can he come to my house and help me?

Sonic is a very beautiful thing, but it is also a tool of the devil.

This always happens to me. Why is it that every time I go to Sonic I want everything? Mozzarella sticks (a definite must), breakfast burritos (muy delicioso), corn dogs, burgers, tots, tots with CHEESE! The possibilities are endless.

And it's even worse with the drinks. How do you stop yourself from ordering the whole menu now that they've introduced Happy Hour? Well, I already have a Coke and a strawberry slush, but those limeades look tasty. Kill me.

"P's" from the past deserve some props. These two items are especially dear to my heart, and I'm guessing you'll remember them fondly as well.

Our precious Polly Pocket of yesteryear. Choking hazard? Perhaps. But we looked danger square in the eyes and soldiered on. Nothing could come between us and our Polly Pocket. Ahh, the memories.

Many, many hours were spent with these pint-sized pooches. Perfectly normal to us then, but particularly disturbing now, were the even smaller puppies hidden inside this Pound Puppy's Velcro uterus conveniently located on her belly. Still, I miss these little guys - are they still around?

Just two more reasons to celebrate "P".

Littlest Pet Shop Zoo!

Did anyone else have these things? I definitely had the whole zoo set up with the baby lion and the monkey and his little banana bucket and the big purple gates that were the entrance to the zoo. The arctic animals were my favorite because I loved shooting the penguins down the slide and that fish had a magnet on it so the polar could catch it. This thing was just the most fun! I wish I still had it! :(

What I Think of When I Think of Frank Kerr

I always thought he would come back like this.
And while then I could only see a dark box,
and my father was wringing the life
from my hand,
I imagined his fishing boat and the trucker hat
from the tortilla factory in El Paso.
I imagined his smile that hid his teeth
and the fold of skin from nose to cheeks
that was just like mine

My mother and my sister were there,

A glimpse into my very own personal nightmare...

If you know me, you know how much I hate gum. Also, I truly have a distaste for people who chew it. Could you be more disgusting?! I can't think of anything more terrible. I'm going to put this strange gooey substance in my mouth and slobber around with it for a few hours and then proceed to either toss it on the ground or stick it wherever the hell I want to- just because I can. Ewww.

Today must be my lucky day. The most atrocious thing happened at the library just now. After sitting down at the computer next to "rude butt" (as chronicled below), I find that a grotesque someone has folded their spitty gum into a paper and left it as a gift for me. How kind!
